One of the things that prohibits decluttering for me is sentimental JUNK! There is so much of it and it's everywhere! The thing that I really hate is that I don't even care about it.

For instance, I have these 2 life size dolls that my mother made me when I was about 5. One is a Little Orphan Annie doll and the other is Me! I know it took a lot of work for her to make them. I remember loving them as a little girl. But, the truth is, they now just take up TONS of space in my own daughter's way too cluttered room. Emma is not interested in them. What should I do with them? I want to just trash them. I don't want to know that they are just stashed in a closet. But I don't want to hurt my mom's feelings.

Another thing is the 20 or so larged frame pictures that my husband has from when he was in the seminary in Rome. They are not hung up (just piled in a corner) and I don't want them hung up. They are of people, buildings, you name it. I don't even like the frames! What do you think?

Ugh - I hate stuff that I am supposed to love!

with you and your daughter and be sure to send one to your mom because she'll love to see it.

Otherwise my vote is for Goodwill (or your choice of donation center) because someone else may just love them before throwing them away.

Warmly,
Debra

Yup, what she said. We've gotten rid of tons of sentimental stuff simply because there is no room in our small house for it. You don't need "things" to have memories. Pictures usually are sufficient. We take our things to Goodwill or Salvation Army and hope someone else will get some use out of it.
