I need brown and tan, but I'm too broke to get any acid dyes right now. Can I throw some roving and tea bags (or coffee) in a pot with some vinegar to dye it??

Maybe I'll try it with some uncared fleece first, not my good roving...

TIA!

If you have brown procion, you can use those as acid dyes and use vinegar as the fixer ;)

Thanks, good idea. I'm pretty sure I have brown Procion -- I have a small fortune in dye here.

I'm going to try the tea dye too, just for the sake of science, lol!

So of course I sit down to nurse the baby and update how the tea dye experiment turn out and the digicam is across the room. Rowan is almost asleep, so I'm not going to get it, I 'll have to add the photo later.

Anyhow, the tea dye worked, sort of. I got sort of a light tan with some darker spots. I think it is just easier to use Procion, but in a pinch tea will work. If I ever do it again, I'll use many, many more tea bags (i only used 3 big ones...)

I'll add a pic later, if I remember.
