we had 90 days of mcafee when we bought our computer. It is about to expire. We've still had trouble even w/ the mcafee, so i was wondering if there is something better? where do i get it? and how much should i plan to spend? TIA

I am happy with Norton Antivirus. you will expect to spend $49 unless you can get it on sale. (I got a $20 rebate on mine).

We used to use McAfee, until we got the Klez virus a few years ago, and it wiped the McAfee out. We switched to Norton Antivirus, and eventually also got Norton Internet Security. You should be able to go to Symantec (http://www.symantec.com) and find out more about Norton. We have had nothing but a good experience with Norton.

a few weeks ago my computer was riddled with viruses. my mcaffe didn't find a single one, the symantec found 11 but it was still running wonky and someone gave me this link www.grisoft.com/us/us_dwnl_free.php and i downloaded it into my computer and it found 22 viruses!!!! my computer is finally virus free.

I'm VERY happy with my McAfee, but not McAfee from a box. I use their subscription service. You download it online and then it automatically updates itself. I'll see it downloading, get a little notice that an update is installed, and that's it. So it's always up to date.

I've only had one virus in the last three years and that happened when my old computer's operating system had issues, I reinstalled the OS, forgot to reinstall mcafee, spent three days online working, and picked up the blaster virus.

I also use McAfee's subscription service. It was only $35 online for a year...cheaper than buying virus software at the store that doesn't get updated.
