My garden! rented a tiller because raised beds wasn't an option and our soil is hard packed clay. My anxious that my seeds will fail, or that I'll fail somehow. Silly isn't it? Anyway fun for the lil ones. You sure don't get many organic corn seeds per packet!

to help it be more, friable, (I think that's the word the garden books I've read used!)...aka allows more air and water to pass through, holds moisture w/out the plants having wet feet.
I did it by shovel (aka back!) and turned and turned the soil, added cypress mulch (the most chewed up mulch I could find) and peat moss to help break up the clay soil. So far so good!
I'm a wee worried, as well, that after all my hard work my garden (or gardening abilities) will be a total flop. I mean, the ONLY green bean that's come up so far is one J planted! LOL And it wasn't even in the garden so I dug it up and transplanted it! LOL
And J's loved gardening, too....we don't have a lot of grass and he's knocked over the bird feeder TWICE and *planted* the birdseed and it's growing! LOL
Ah, the anxiety of growing a garden that you depend on.
GROW GROW GROW (as Justin would say!)
I'm sure you're garden will be wonderful, Jen. But until those seedlings pop up through the soil you'll still feel anxious, I'm sure!
Best of luck!
BTW, what are you growing?
