View Full Version : I have SO much kitchen stuff...what would YOU deem essential?
I've got a bread machine, toaster oven, forman grill, pressure canner, 2 sets of pots and one set of fry pans, all kinds of baking pans (basically what I use), tons of tupperware, lots of serving bowls, 2 sets of dishes (the same....so service for 8), glasses and wine glasses we never use, lots of hand kitchen gadgets (I admit it, I'm a gadget junkie!)
SO, what do you deem absolutely essential to have in your kitchen? Food processor? Coffee maker? 3 sets of dishes? 2 sets of silver ware? 5 spatulas, 4 scrapers, 3 slotted spoons, a spaghetti spoon, mandoline, etc?
Spill, I have TONS of stuff and I need to simplify and declutter.
TIA!

I probably have too much stuff in my kitchen too, but it's hard for me to part with it.
I have service for 12 in my dishes and all the serving dishes, platters, and "extras" (watering can, tea pot, coffee carafe, tea for one, vases, etc)
I have 2 sets of pots and pans (one was mine and one was Dom's) as well as a new set of beautiful Calphalon I just bought (80% off). I need to purge the original stuff, but I'm having trouble.
I have about 6 Pampered Chef stoneware pans/muffin pan/roaster
I have a coffee pot, electric can opener toaster, and microwave. When we divorced the ex took all the other small appliances.
I have lots and lots of hand gadgets and measuring stuff too.
I just know if I get rid of stuff (except the pots and pans) I am going to want it back.
WAH...I need help with this too!!!

2 frying pans
1 deap frying pan or wok
2 pressure cookers
1 stock pot
1 sauce pan
bread machine
blender
hand mixer (or kitchen aid but I don't have one so obviously not essential for baking or cooking from scratch)
2 12 muffin tins
2 bread pans
2 pie pans
1 sheet cake pan
10 wooden spoons
2 plastic spoons
2 scrapers
1 ladel
8-12 spoons & forks (each)
2 small serving spoons
2 glass measuring cups
a set of measuring spoons
1-4 twisty straws (depending on your # of children)
4-8 16 oz glasses (we have 4)
4-8 8 oz glasses (again depending on # of children, we have 10... but they are cute little old jelly jars *blush*)
4-8 large plates, small plates
8 bowls (these seem to get used SO much more than plates here)
4 plastic small bowls (for snacks outside, or somewhere other than the table)
10 tuperwear thingys, varring sizes (all must have lids to pass inspection)
1 bamboo steamer
That is essential in my kitchen. All of these get used with in a week. That is how I judge what stays and what goes... although of course there are things I have that I do not use that often... but that is why I am decluttering... if I was decluttered I would not be here right? lol

I try to only keep what I use on a regular basis.
I have a set of dishes for 8, I feel this is necessary for us because we do entertain.
I have 2 extra sets of dishes, my china and then a set from my mom that is 30+ years old. I haven't decided what I will do with those yet.
I have and use a bread machine, george foreman grill, crockpot and toaster oven.
I have one set of pans which has 2 saucepans and a large pot and skillet. One extra saucepan and one cast iron skillet.
I have a pampered chef round stone, and pie plate and platter. I broke my 9x13 dish and want to replace it and also want a square baker. I use these all the time. I also have a set of 3 cake pans which I don't use that often, but I keep because I do use them to make a special cake for dh. I also have a pc mini muffin tin, cooling rack and cutting board and lots of their gadgets.
Tupperware, I have lots of modular mates in use. I also have a cake carrier and the little cups for snacks for the boys.
I really need to clean out the tupperware and match up what has lids ect and then to clean out my pc gadgets and some of them can go.

The 2 most used appliances at my house are:
Bosch mixer and blender combo
Krups coffee maker
oh and the coffee grinder -braun
I say the brand names because these are items that I should not have to replace for awhile. Good quality pays off!
then neccesity items on occasion:
cuisineart food processor
Ultra Mill grain grinding machine
Toaster
crock pot
another braun coffee grinder for herbs (had 10 years)
popcorn air popper
steamer
Gotta have stainless steel utensils.
I don't know how many plates, etc.... we should have, but I do try to use stoneware.
Pots and pans I try to use cast iron as much as possible for the iron it throws into the food.
Stainless steel we use too.
Nonstick cookware can break off into the food. Aluminum is also
thought to be a factor in Alzheimers disease so that is why we try to use the above mentioned items.
We jsut try to do the best we can for health sake but certainly not perfect.
Oh another thing we use daily is mason jars. I store herbs int hem and wemake infusions in them as well.
I dont know if this helped at all Stacy.

Looks like you already have some good recommendations and lists posted but I thought I would mention what we do. We bought some IKEA shelving for the garage to house all the canned goods that I do during certain seasons. I also have all my canning supplies out there (pressure canner, water bath canner, jars and lids) since I don't use that all the time- just seasonally and usually in big 1-2 day spurts at a time. The crockpot (which I use more but its big and doesn't justify space for every couple weeks- or even every weeK), punch bowl, extra silverware (I have 12 placesettings, but only keep 6 in the drawer), camping cookware...... not sure what else but all that stays in the garage. In the house the only appliances I have: toaster, rice cooker, smootie elite, bread machine, hand mixer (wish I had a kitchen aid though). The bread machine is used daily to every other day so it sits on the counter, every thing else is in a cabinet.
