View Full Version : Has anyone else fallen off the decluttering wagon?

I started strong a couple of weeks ago, and now it seems like the decluttering is at the bottom of my to do list again. I am having a garage sale in a couple of weeks, and have run out of room to store the stuff till then, lol. I still have 2 rooms to conquer and feel like I may *never* get to them.
Just having a little crisis of motivation...

I'm on and off all the time. I think the most important thing is not to give up entirely - you can develop anti-clutter habits to tide you over when doing a room (even 15 mins at a time) feels overwhelming.
for example something like tossing junk mail in the trash immediately can make a difference & be a reminder that this is how you want to proceed...in any case it beats tossing the junk mail in the rooms to be decluttered, right? ;-)

Me too. I have been dealing with getting Jake's therapies under control/in process. They finally are, though I have a big chunk added to my day -- doing floortime therapy with him for at least 6 20-30 minute sessions, preferably 10. Matt does 2-3 of them in the evenings. Plus Katie is learning how to read so we're doing a bit more structured homeschooling stuff.
But, I *need* to get back on track. We want to start our circle time and daily "project" (Painting, Baking, Nature Walk, etc) on Monday. And for Jake's therapy, part of it is putting away some of our toys, saving them for interactive times, and just not overwhelming him with choices right now.
I so desperately want to simplify my life...not just declutter. I need more time -- time to take walks with the kids, time to take a hot bath, time to do yoga. Time to decompress, relax, sit and do nothing. Time to read.
I know decluttering will help me get there...

Me too, Lauren. I actually have the time, but lack the motivation. We need to settle into a groove, but everything seems up in the air until school lets out and the boys and I are together all day everyday. As of yet we've not settled into any kind of rhythm on their off days. I want them home now! They have 6.5 weeks left.
I look at the clutter and get paralyzed by it. I know we have far less than some people, but far more than others. Why the heck am I even trying to compare it? I need to do this for me. I need to take away the physical clutter so that my home is easier to maintain and my mood can be better. I need to clear out the time clutter so that I can replace it with meaningful activities. This computer is a huge time suck for me. I need to clear out the mental clutter so I can get my priorities straight.
Here I am, jumping back on the bandwagon!!!!
Peace,
Kimberly
