This movie sucked for the most part. I guess I think this because I was under the impression that it was a comedy. It's not. It is incredibly depressing. I say this from the viewpoint of a mother and from the viewpoint of a woman who had a miserable childhood and, like Dakota Fanning's character, grew up too fast.

The lead character, what's-her-name-who-dated-Ashton-Kutcher-and-why-do-I-even-know-that? is in love with this loser who has no character development at all. That was just one annoyance.

Both my husband and I disliked this movie. Don't waste your time.

Not as bad, however, as Riding in Cars with Boys. I also expected that to be a comedy. Instead, in watching this movie, I was brought back to my childhood and I phoned my husband at midnight at his hotel room to cry for hours when he had to work in the a.m. Movies like this bother me because I know all too well that they are not just movies. There are children whose lives are like this. It is heartbreaking. NOT COMEDY!!

editing to update- this movie was a royal waste of time.

I thought Uptown Girls was cute for what it was. I wasn't really looking for a deep philophical movie when I rented it, and I certainly didn't get that. lol Anyway, I thought it was cute.
