I will be taking my son on a 6 hour plane trip with a commuter flight with an hour lay over in between flights on NWA. I was wondering if anyone has advice on how to pass the time with a small child on the plane.

Thanks in advance!

We flew on Frontier last Feb. from MN to San Diego with a then 3.5 year old and 11 month old. We flew to Denver (2 hr flight) and then had a break for 45 min. before flying another 2 hours to San Diego. It was a great flight. We made sure we flew when it was sleep time (either nap or bed) when we flew so that the youngest would sleep. To keep the 3.5 year old entertained we brought the laptop for movies, snacks, books, and she brought her leappad to play with. It worked out really nice for us.

Good Luck!

I feel you!

I travel often with my two kids on my own (now 3 and 18 months)...my suggestion is to go to a dollar store or something equivalent...and I buy a handful of new items that they don't have. Once I am on the plane, I take them out when they start to get ansy (sp?), one at a time (so the handful of stuff lasts the whole trip! LOL)..

I also buy their favorite snacks (some usually off-limits) to entice them when they start to get restless. With my 18 mo old, it's oreo cookies, and with greggy (3 yo) it's chips ahoy cookies.

good luck and hth!!!

we pack a small bag for each of them (2 & 4) with goodies,

stickers!! and a sticker book to put them in

snacks, raisins, bananas or banana chips, hi c boxes, pretzels, pb&j sandwhiches, those small cereal boxes, etc..

a small can of playdough for each of them

a pad of paper like a small notebook and some crayons

thier favorite stuffed animal and blankie

and usually a couple match box cars or airplanes to play with

they do most if not all of this on the tray tables..

they'll be just fine :) good luck !

do some airlines not let you have electronics on board?
remember headphones and extra batteries if you can.

when I flew suncountry 4yrs ago dh and I were thinking of getting a cam corder with the viewscreen for ds to watch movies on but never had a chance. but I seem to remember them saying no electronics during the little speech they give in the begging.

we had a bag with snacks and books etc. for ds. he slept 90% there and the plain was 1/2 empty so we moved to our own row with some space between the rows also. but on the way home we were packed in (wish I had a redeye for that flight) I had more troubles with dh being cranky and packed in and the lady infront of ds was not the nicest about not recling her seat (he was in a carseat also - so not much room for him)

we never had a problem with electronics. Maybe they meant cell phones. We used our laptop and dh uses his when he flies for business several times per year.
