Ok I just mowed my lawn, and got to thinking I need a compost bin. Mine has to be a covered container type due to pests and birds, lots of flies. I just can't justify buying a tumbler right now.
So I got a huge Rubbermaid bin and drilled holes in the bottom, sides near the handles and the top for rain.
Is this good or should I start over. I’ve got plenty of bins!
So I lay in a layer of newspaper and then all the grass clipping from my mulching mower I mowed green and brown grass and lots of stray wood chips, and one rotten banana.
Ok so what do I do now, what do I add.

We've always added a little dirt to start out so that you get a dose of the microbes that live in dirt and help to break things down.
