Anyone use a Compost Tumbler? We have a standard sort of compost bin but it is so dry here that we have to constantly add water. Not good when you are in the midst of a 8 year (and counting) drought. I was going to have DH build a 3 bin system out of pallets but it would take up so much room and we really don't have a place to put it that would not detract from our yard's appearance, ya know?
The tumblers are really expensive but it seems like a good solution for us. I especially like the Mantis 2 compartment one.
If only DH were handy and could make one from an old drum. Sigh...

We had a compost tumbler at our last house and I LOVED it! I don't know who made it, but I ordered it online (of course) and it cost something like $120, shipping included. I thought that was a pretty good price, because it was one of those great big drums that rotated. Well, since you get what you pay for, the stand broke after the first season, but DH fixed it and it was better than ever. I'm in the market for a new one right now. It's sooooo much faster and less messy!

Well, after much online research I took the plunge and ordered 2 of the smaller sized Urban Compost Tumblers this morning. So many tumblers lack any sort of fins or rods to actually separate the compost as it turns and this concerned me.

I also like that these are black so they will absorb more heat and that they are recycled plastic.
I'll be certain to post a review after I've used them a while. We have some almost finished compost in our current bin that I hope will finish in the tumbler before planting time here (early May).
One step closer to having a beautiful backyard and garden...

That's EXACTLY the same one we had! I forgot about that pole in the middle, but it does make a BIG difference. Thanks for the link -- I'm going to order one too! :D
