The last time I had a haircut was well over a year ago. I was wondering if it was possible to cut one's own hair and have it look good?

The last haircut I gave myself was 10 years ago, when I used to shave my head bald. Not going for that look anymore! I'm too chubby-I'd look like Uncle Fester, LOL!

Most likely *not* the answer you are looking for but when I read this I just had to reply. The only home hair cut I have had was when my dh helped me shave my hair before it fell out due to my chemo treatments. I finished up a month and a half ago and I am anixously awaiting it to grow back....

But, when I did have hair I would try to cut my bangs and I could never even get that right.

Have you checked out your local library for a video or books? How about going to a college? Our community college has a cosmetology department and they have the students give supervised haircuts for really cheap. Or, ask around. In our church there is a SAHM that cuts hair at her kitchen sink and only charges a few bucks. I think that's great because she doesn't mind if you bring your kids, as long as you don't mind a bunch of kids running under foot and dinner cooking on the stove.

That may offer some low cost alternatives instead of a high priced salon.

I just know that when I do have hair *I* would never be brave enough to do it myself.

I'm not brave enough to try. :o I have cut my boys hair and it turns out... well, sometimes better than other times. :D

I've had my mother-in-law trim my hair for me, and that works good. :)

That's a good idea, Tawnya. I'll ask around in church if any mama cuts hair. I'd rather sit amidst children than the stuffy attitudes while getting my hair trimmed.

I did cut my hair once, I can't believe I forgot about it- I completely butchered it. I went to a salon and the stylist gasped when I took off my hat! LOL! My BIL called it my "Dutch Boy Haircut". :)

Yeah, on a regular basis. But I have steady hands, and a firm opinion of what I want.

* Don't try to make it even with the hair on each side. Key each side's hair to the features. It will look even that way.Like, clip a few hairs at the level of your eyes, at your cheekbones and at your chin. YOu face isn't symetrical, so if you reference the hair to the hair on the other side, it will look uneven.

Use a comb to straighten out the sides, and guide you for cutting. The very back- tilt your head, so it's falling, and guess. HaveDH clear up the stragglers.

Use incredibly sharp scissors.

Good Luck!

The hand's down best haircutter I know has a salon at her house- a side bump off the kitchen---she's fullybooked, too. It's not the surroundings that cut your hair, it's the person.

Again, Good Luck! I knw how good a good haircut makes you feel!
