I'm thinking about bringing this w/ us on the plane in case I can't get L to sleep (10 hr overnight flight, UGH!). Does it work?

never tried that brand, but do know that valerian works very well.

Do make sure there isn't Kava Kava in it, as there is still testing going on about it causing acute liver failure. (so far, they're thinking its the companies who cut corners and include stem and leave kavalactones. Traditional has always been root) It's highly unlikely it'd happen, but it's better to play it safe YK?

Also be careful about the way you administer it, as it smells very strongly like dirty socks. :eek: Like repulsively strong. I can't even hold a capsule of it without having to wash my hands afterward. So just keep that in mind. I wouldn't be surprised if there are other herbs in it to mask the smell/taste. if not, give it straight, but with a chaser, don't dilute it, as it's such a strong taste in my experience that it'll make the diluted liquid taste bad, and the whole dose won't be taken.

And it's quite safe from what I know. :)

I've given that brand to Saige when he had the chicken pox. It worked like magic...well, he was just getting over the worst part of the chicken pox and hadn't slept for two days but when I gave it to him he was out for about 4 hours. I'm not sure if you have to use it and build up the benefits like some other herbs, but it seemed to work right away for him.

I love the Herbs for Kids brand! It is like drinking a light tea when mixed with water. My fave is Echinacea/Eyebright. Works great with colds or taken as a prevent (keeping in mind you can't take echinacea everyday.

Valerian is also safer to take than melotonin. Hyland's Calmforte works wonders for a good nights sleep as well. Both me and hubby usually take it during summer (we live in downtown). Works great when the local fair is done the street!

We've used it and it works well. HFK does a good job of masking the smell and making it sweet-tasting but it is still somewhat stinky.

Ugh, i just thought about this, but since it's a liquid, I wonder if they'll let me take it on the plane after it's opened?

I've taken Rescue Remedy on planes with me no problem (open bottles), even immediately post 9/11 (we flew 9/16 or something very close). I always have a baggie with our most used homeopathics and the RR for the flight in my carryon bag. I've never even had to taste it for someone.

You can always call the airline to be sure.

How long until you leave?

We have used it, more for when I am having a "day" with my 6yo!
I am not positive it works, but I feel better knowing that I have tried something!;)
But I agree with everyone else before, wow does it stink!!!!!!!!
I just bought the Hylands calmsforte, but have not used it. It says to swallow the tablets. So I did not know if they could be used under the tongue like my other homeopathics? Any one know?

Well, Ian, they can't really ;) I don't know what you use them for, but the tsa.gov site details that syringes are allowed for medicinal use (like diabetics - my grandfather was always travelling with insulin and syringes).

I'm not sure how they would have you "prove" they were safe since if you were diabetic, you couldn't go giving yourself shots of insulin just to make the security screener happy (unlike drinking from bottles).

I guess this is one of the remaining areas of "trust"?

I bring tubes of homeopathics. White powder anyone?

And, have you ever read the list of allowed and disallowed items? I found myself thinking "who would think this is okay to bring in their carry-on??" (machetes, spear guns.... oh how the list went on).

you're right, but the stipulations are that you are supposed to bring the prescription labels to match with your supplies and your ID, but they never check.

Oh, and just for the record, I'm diabetic. -- Wouldn't want anyone with the wrong ideas. Especially knowing my past. tee hee.

And, for the record, I assumed that if you weren't diabetic then you had some naturopathic use for the syringes (I've been told they're a better way to measure essential oils, for example). Not really my business what you use them for anyway :)

And don't worry anyone, if I ever send you something I made with EOs, they will be measured with non-used syringes. LOL In fact, mine measure cc's and I think it would just be easier to get the medicine-giver ones with no needle and more commonly used demarcation.
