My husband and I are buying our first house. It is in a small town near Park City, UT so it is up in the mountains. I am looking forward to having our first garden. I want to grow an organic garden. I don't know that much about gardening and I am looking for a good book for beginning gardening. Please let me know if you have any good books for me.
Thanks Patty

Oh mama, I've got one, but it's packed up for this time that I live at my parent's house. I have no idea when this stay is going to end, and no idea which box its in.

If I'm on my feet again soon, I'll look up this post and PM you. :)

PS, You should xpost this to supercrunch if you havent already. They might have something over there too. :)

I was going to tell you about an awesome e-newsletter I get but then I remembered I stop getting it. Ok, I am going to search and see if I can find them.

Ok, Can't find them but here are some cool links.

http://supak.com/organic_gardening/organic.htm

http://www.organicgardening.com/ (this is the magazine they would advertise)

http://www.geocities.com/RainForest/Canopy/3588/ (part of an organic gardening web ring)

Ok, now I feel really dumb! It was in my e-mail box and they just haven't sent it in awhile. It's html now. I feel even dumber because it is through organic gardening.com (link is in above post. So, if you want a really cool e-newsletter, that would be the one.

I would start with a soil test... then go on to get what you need (organically of course) to make the soil rich and gardenable... then start looking for varieties that are good for your area, and start planting. Depending on the Zone you are in, you should be able to plant soon. A great one for a first time garden is Organic Gardening Book... The Patio Kitchen Garden gives great advice on what should go with what, and how things work together in limited space... The Herbal Companion is a wonderful magazine too... and there are these little flyers that you can get that talk ALL about certian plants. I have the kitchen herbs one and I just LOVE the way they set up their information. So comprensive! I can't find mine... but I have been reading it, so it is around here somewhere. I will find it and then edit. :)

I know that this first two days of this week I am adding dirt, and building beds. Then I am planting peas starting on the 9th (Cancer moon) and perhaps sunflowers. I am also going to talk to my dad about using his spot becuase mine is small and planting corn and potatoes in the places he does not use.... wild flowers too. I have a big week ahead of me. :)
