I enjoyed it!! Its not one I'd buy, but it was a good movie to see at least once kwim!! Have you gotten to see it yet?? What did you think??

I did watch it, and I realized I have watche it before. It was a good movie though...but kind of left me "disturbed" and "thinking".

I enjoyed it...welll as much as one could enjoy that movie. I also read the book, which was much better then the movie. Of course books are always better;)

We had to watch is as part of our foster parent "training". I was not impressed at all with the story. Too much of what was inferred was just unrealistic (the girl becoming a sexual predator without having any past sexual assaults).

Did you read the book? This is one area that the book did go into more detail on. Not necessarily assault, but there was more that wasn't in the movie.

The movie didn't grab me like the book. The book is easily my pick for most beautiful writing. Awww. To write like this woman. My dream. The dialogue, the descriptions, the characters. They all come to life - so much more so than in the movie IMO. I was sadly disappointed in the movie -- but then again, perhaps my expectations were too high. If you haven't read the book - DO! One of the most moving, beautifully written books I've read in years. The writing is exquisite - right up there w/Charles Fraizer's "Cold Mountain" IMO.

Did we see a different movie? Where did she become a sexual predator? Yes she initiated some sexual contact, but she was still very much a minor (I believe 12-14) and he was still very much a full grown man, which still constitutes sexual victimization. Why and how did you come to the belief that she was a sexual predator?

On top of that, plenty of people become sexual assalents (I don't use sexual predator unless they truly are - and just being a rapist doesn't count - it's legal term reserved for those who are serial sexual assalents) without having been sexually victimized. In fact, I would venture to bet that the large majority of rapists have never been raped themselves.

But, she in no way was a sexual predator; she was a victim and to imply anything other does her character as well as other minors engaged in sexual relationships - consentual or not - with significantly older people, is to blame the victim.

I enjoyed the movie (but loved the book), but it was too close to my job for my comfort level. Not only were my parents foster parents to many children when I grew up, but I work in community mental health and the story is, unfortunately, not far from much of what I see and it was hard to turn off my therapist lenses while watching the movie.

This is one that grabs hold, complete escapist reading. I have so many thoughts on the story. The writing is excellent why aren't more fiction books written this well? or maybe I'm too picky.

I have to disagree with her being sexual predator. She was the victim of 40 year old man. She was looking so desperately for love misguided that shouldn't have been sexual but turned out that way.
