I have been happy to see lots of new posters in the last few months!
Welcome, everyone!!! :D
I thought it would be nice to have a question and answer thread, where the new members could ask any questions they might have. And we'll do our best to answer!
Stumped on any of the lingo or abbreviations? Unsure of how to post a picture in a thread??
Just ask!! :) Someone is bound to have an answer for you!

Spam is usually when you're advertising something you have for sale. Like, I'm about to "spam" you by saying: FOLLOW THIS LINK! (http://www.amitymama.com/vb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=151156) (lol! Sorry)....
Spam is also all the junk mail you get in your inbox. I will take Amity spams ANYDAY over email spam -- unless it's from an Amity mama ;)

How long has this site been around? What's the history behind it? I know bits and pieces but I would love to know how it evolved from start to finish ~ condensed version is fine! :)

I've been around for a good long while (not as long as many) and I'd like to know the Amity's World history too!
We will be celebrating the 6th anniversary of the *birth* of Amity's in August. :)
It started out as inside the web, then moved a few different boards. I've been here 4 years (?!) and we've moved boards at least 2 if not 3 times.
I'll pm AM and ask for her help with the history (unless some of you VERY old timers wanna jump in!)

I've been around for awhile too, but want to know what (m) means in post titles. I cannot figure that one out.
it means more text follows (so look inside for the rest of the *story* or whatever it is).
:)

But doesn't that apply to almost every post? I guess I still don't *get* it. ;)

And sometimes you'll see"n/t" in the title, which means there is No Text in the message.

I don't see the (m) (nt) thing so much here, but used to see it used all the time at Parents Place, where a lot of times you can answer a question in just the title. That way you don't have to click and open a post that only has info in the title.

So, Stacy.... you callin' me an old timer? I've been part of Amity's since about 2 Nov of the year it started. There are a few others here, too, that have been here that long... some that are a lot more active still, too.

Yeah, I've been here since Jan 1999, which is just 6 months after it started.
But it wasn't *here* -- on these boards. It was one teeny board on Inside the Web -- remember the pink/purple flowered background?
It started as just cloth diaper swapping. Back then there were not so many brands to try and the idea of a diaper-making WAHM was *brand-new.*
If you wanted some of the *hot* diapers, you had better be sitting right there hitting refresh to get them! LOL!
I'm feeling rather ill at the moment so will have to leave the "AW history" at that...someone else fill in if you can!

Well, this is something I can relate to LOL! I came here in May of 1999 - and Lauren, I remember that purple flowered background, it felt like you were in a dark hallway LOL!
I had a lot of good friends here though. I don't know if anyone remembers Heather of DJs Diapers, but she is the one who brought me here :)

Yeah, we are old, lol!
I've been here since 1998...Well, here being the Inside the Web board. There was just one board back then...kind of like the market board of today. We would all sit and hit refresh to see if any good diapers were being posted fs. Back then, that was Mother-Ease. That was in the days when ME stuff was still being retailed by WAHM's. I think a alot of us migrated from the Parentsplace.com diapering board.
There were a few (2 or 3?) incarnations of the www.Amitysworld.com website. Gradually, new boards and moderators were added...making it what it the place we know today at Amitymama.com. Hey did the change to AM have anything to do with the site at www.amityworld.com?

What does nak or naking mean? I'm assuming that it has something to do with nursing while typing but I can't figure it out. HELP! :)

I always wondered that myself. I've NEVER forgotten when I accidentally typed it in wrong and it seemed like forever EVERY time I'd go to type it in, AOL would automatically take me to the VERY different amityworld than where I was planning on going. It had that HUGE picture. I was furious. Devin was sitting right by me one time when it popped up. After a while, I was scared to come for fear I'd get the wrong site.
