I've been thinking of starting a little log listing my savings... then when I feel all the little things I do aren't making a difference, I can look at it and see that it does. Does anyone do this? Like last weekend we cut two ds's hair, and I cut dh's hair, $30 saved (at least!) I'm usually critical with myself, figuring out where I could cut things/find savings, I feel like I need some uplifting, kwim?

if you have the $$, but just want to be frugal -- you could put a small amount, say 10% of what you save into an actual savings account. I did this with coffee for a bit. Every day i was spending 2.50 on coffee. then i bought a thermos and I save at least 2.00 a day. For a period of time (before we found out dd was coming) I put 5 bucks a week in the account. It really started to add up. We used it to buy some pottery when we took a vacation.

I love this idea, Annemarie! I can see where it would be really uplifting to look back and see what you have accomplished by being frugal. I definitely want to do this...maybe even a combination by putting a portion of the savings in a jar/account for "fun" money later.
