I guess this is what you guys call a Sew Along? I put up some step-by-step instructions on making sweater/soaker pants for a friend of mine. I thought I would share them here in case anyone is interested.

I know most people make these out of wool for diaper covers, but I didn't have many wool sweaters so I make mine mostly out of soft cotton sweaters -- still plenty of space in the seat for a cover. I have so many that I will never wear but I'm not ready to part with them yet. :)

I was suprised that my husband actually tried to give me some of his sweaters to use to make pants. Maybe he would actually like it. :)

Oh cool, I like this idea. I have some sweaters that I love that don't fit anymore...

You could sew the arms together one inside the other like you do when sewing pants with no outseam -- I think it's easier to do that way...

I'm not great with sewing technique, can you elaborate on that? I am feeling a little lame for not understanding what you mean. :)

super cute! i just made a pair 4 cody. used the "one leg inside teh other" method... just that is only way i know.
hard 2 explain while nursing in the dark here, but the pants came out great! i will go 2 the thrift store 2 get larger sweaters tomorrow... this pair is a little short in the rise.
thanky9ou so much for posting these instructions. i was looking for a nice warm idea for pants that are not fleece...
jenylynn,
nak, 'cause i just had to try the pants on him and woke him up in the process
:p

Don't feel lame, I'm not explaining it very well. It's the one leg inside the other like Smartpants/Jenylynn said. You put one leg inside the other, rightsides together, and then you sew around the crotch seam. I can do a pair tomorrow and illustrate if you want.

You can take an existing pair of pants and stick one leg in the other to see how it looks after it's sewn. It's really easy, it just doesn't make sense until you actually see and do it.

Great Idea ! The possibilities are endless!
Now what do you do with the body of the sweater ?

If I had a girl, I would make skirts out of the body material -- there is plenty left. I think that if you have enough coordinating sweaters, you could make skirts with coordinating legging attached -- solid skirt with striped leggings.. or floral skirt with solid leggings under. It would probably just be a matter of choosing a thinner sweater for the legs so they wouldn't be incredibly bulky.

Also, you could probably make child-sized scarves, hats, and mittens. In fact, I think I'll try that with the leftovers from my last 2 sweaters. :)

I am going to take some pants and stick one leg inside the other. I keep trying to picture it and it's not working. :)

I make another pair of pants from the body, 2 pair from one sweater. I just use my ksft pattern piece as a guide and line up the hem with the hem of the sweater
