View Full Version : PSA: Have you cleaned your dryer vent hose lately?

Our dryer was taking longer & longer to dry clothes, especially diapers & jeans. We checked everything else, and then looked in the hose. Yikes! In the 5 years we've lived here, the hose had at least 1.5"-2" of lint buildup. Not only an energy waster, but also a *major* fire hazard. So we went to Lowe's and bought a new hose for $8, and the dryer works great again.
I know now that we should have done this long ago, but no one ever told us that we should clean out and/or change the vent hose. I'll start checking it on a regular basis now.

thanks for the reminder!
My neighbor was just saying something about this the other day. It is now on my "honey-do" list for the week.

Good idea! How often should you check it?

I am not sure how often we "Should" check it, but I'll probably do it every 6 months or so. I check our smoke detector batteries on New Year's day & Independence day, so I'll add the dryer vent to that schedule.

Thats a really great idea. Our dryer is just 1 1/2 years old but I can tell it's taking longer to dry the towels and my thicker diapers. I'll have to run to Lowe's today:)
