Anyone on this EMPTY forum?? LOL!

I thought it was pretty good. I must admit I went into it a bit defensive because I chose to get married (the married part was NOT as important to me) and raise my kids instead of career life. I had seen some interviews about the movie and I got the idea that it really bashed anyone who would simply want to be a SAHM.
But really by the end that wasn't (IMO) what it was about and I liked it.
The only thing I didn't like was how they portrayed the feminists(for lack of a better word) as promiscuous. I think it would have been more powerful to have one character that didn't want to get married and didn't want to sleep around.

I would love to see this movie. And although I have not I wanted to talk about this topic a little bit.

I really think that there was a reson why the feminist movement was pushed SO hard by women. My grandmother was the sterotypical SAHM for the 50's. Weekend drunk husband, with so little power she was under the abuse of her own sons, thinking that was the way it was suposed to be. On Valuim and all. It is easy for me to see where some women thought that it was be a hard a$$ money maker with a huge career or be the broken victim. There are so many more options now... and I have to say that I thank the women that stepped out and got careers, because now I have the option. Although I do not choose to take it myself. :)

ITA Val... My only fear was this movie would help this backlash on SAHMs progress even more so iykwim.
I am so glad we (as women) have progressed in the directions we have for the most part.
There was a part in the movie that won me over.. Julia Robert's character was talking to one of her student who chose to get married and seemed upset buy her choice. But the student reminder her that she taught them to follow their hearts and pursue what they wanted and she had. I think that is an important part of the movie... More often than not SAHMs get looked down upon as if they never made this choice themselves.

I thought it was a good movie although it was also cliched (sp?). I thought it was a pretty typical "women power" movie although it tried to redeem itself at the end. I was a bit annoyed, but not surprised, that the girl who was really into traditional roles had marital problems.

yeah, I can certainly see why you would be anoyed by that.

Anyhoo, I felt pain for Julia Robert's character in the beginning, when she was being crushed by her class of students. I hated the young woman who got married and was at odds with Roberts' character. ;)

I loved Julia (Moore???) what the heck was her last name? The one who eloped! She was kind to Roberts' yet made it clear that it was *her* choice not to go to Yale, and that she was perfectly content NOT going there. She was a good student and friend to Roberts despite their differences.

I thought the woman with the short bangs and curly black hair did a marvelous job! :) I was a bit clueless, though, and thought she was a lesbian in the early part of the movie. Anyone else think this?

I never trusted the handsome male teacher who Roberts went out with.

And the ending - well, I just loved it! I just loved that the married woman got out of (what seemed like) a very hard situation. I loved that she was moving to NYC and going to law school despite what her perfect mother thought! And I loved that her and Roberts' seemed to be on good terms by the end.

Seemed like everything just worked out well for all the women - the bike scene was beautiful!!! It was so touching and the perfect ending imo.

Okay, I'm being sappy, so I'd better go! LOL!

When Julia's charactoer started dating the teacher my husband grabbed my knee and started whispering WHY?!? WHY?!? LOL!

Ok, I completely thought that the girl with the short black hair was a lesbian too! They made it look like she was a bit touchy feely with the other girls and then someone made some comment that maybe she would grow a d*ck. At least that's what I thought they said although maybe I misunderstood the comment. (it was when they were in their dorm room and the one girl was showing them her bc pills). Oh, and I really loved Julia Stiles character too! Finally, I really thought it seemed out of the character for Julia Roberts to fall for the Italian teacher when he obviously seemed sleazy - sleeping with his students and all. It seems like she wouldn't have fallen for him.
