I normally do reversible pants by making 2 pairs of pants and putting one inside the other and finishing off. Well I tried this new method of doing the 2 pairs together and it goes so fast..... I thought I'd share for those who don't use this technique.....

Step 1. Cut out the pant pieces. Sew side seams (you will do 4 side seams). If you're using a one piece pant pattern this step is omitted.......

Step 2

With right sides together using one piece of each fabric, sew waist seam (you will do 2 waist seams) - leave a small opening on one for inserting elastic later.

Step 3

With right sides together line up the pant pieces and sew crotch seams on either side .

Step 4

Rotate the pants slightly to line up the inner leg seams on either side. Sew the inner leg seams of each pant.

Step 5

Pull the pants out to the right side (by pulling thru one leg) and push one pair inside the other and your reversible pants are almost ready

Step 6

Make casing for elastic and insert elastic thru opening in waist seam. Sew the bottom of the pants......

And voila ~~~~~~~~~ the pants are ready :-)

Hope that was easy to understand....... I'm not too good with explaining things or sewing terminology lol.....

Thanks for taking the time to post this. Do you have a picture of the completed pants lying flat, with the elastic? Thanks again :)

Lol no I ran out of matching thread halfway thru the pants so did the rest of the seams in white (I was making 2 pairs of rev pants). I have to get myself to Walmart sometime today to get it.......and then find time to complete them .....will update with pic when I finish......

Well, that's pretty much how I do mine, but not in exactly the same order... LOL Thanks for doing the S&S, it sure helps visual people (like me! :D ).

Lol, don't you hate it when that happens?! No big deal on the final pic. I was curious about how the elastic/waistband looked on the finished product more than anything. Thanks again for taking the time to post this. I have a pair of reversible pants on my sewing 'to do' list and I'm going to try your method.

I *always* press my seams. My mom taught me that well pressed seams make your clothes look less "homemade". I think it's worth taking the time.

Great sew-a-long Monica, looks like an easy way to do it. :)

This is easy!! Time to go make some for my son. Thanks for the pics, I have been seeing all these cute reversible pants sew and shows and thought wow, what a complicated feat!!
Can an admin put this in the FAQ? Would love to refer back to it.

Cool! Thanks for the picture tutorial!! Now I have very little excuse *not* to turn the cute coordinating flannel and woven Christmas prints I just picked up into 3 pr. of reversible pants. :) Woohoo, I'm excited that it shouldn't take an hour each pair. :D

Thanks........also wanted to mention it did take me longer than 20 mins to do them cos I trimmed seams and pressed the side seams and also pinned a lot lol. But I know most of you'll experienced seamstresses (?) don't really do those and especially if you're using a serger for these it would be real fast.

Well, I don't count myself as experienced (other than making cloth pads which I've got down to a science) but I don't usually use many pins if I can get away without it. ;) I end up taking more time serging because with the 4 thread mock chain stitch (I think it's called) it's really not a sturdy seam so I run a straight stitch along the inside edge for more strength. That ends up adding to the time. But still...this layout you gave is much faster than the way I had been doing it in the past (which is why I've only ever made 2 pair and that was 2 years ago!!!).

Thanks again!!
