1. fold a standard pipe cleaner in half
2. hold the center at the bend and fold sides up...this makes the dolls neck (you'll glue a 12mm bead here)
3. fold back in to make arms
4. fold legs up

1. make a loop with your floss, stick a leg through the loop and tighten at the doll's waist.
2. hold floss taut. open up an arm and begin wrapping floss around pipe cleaner (firmly and tautly so pipe cleaner hairs lie down flat) starting a bit before the hand's bend and ending at the same point on the other side of the bend.
3. Fold the bend back up and begin wrapping around both pieces of pipe cleaner together.
4. Wrap around neck when you get to the end of that arm. Then open up the other arm and wrap it the same way.
5. tie off at waist

1. tie new floss around waist and begin wrapping one open leg the same as you wrapped the hands.
2. fold and wrap leg up
3. wrap around waist and wrap second leg the same as the first
4. tie off at waist
Now dress the little person, glue a 12mm bead on the neck, and give her/him some hair!~
***For a doll wrapped only with skin tone floss you can start with one leg, then wrap arm on the same side, wrap neck, second arm, second leg all in one big process.

Here's some I did using artificial flower parts for clothing/wings.
The big one in the middle was made with 2 pipe cleaners

How did you make the clothes on your set of 8? Did you use floss for the shirt? The clothes are beautiful!

their shirts are floss. Their skirts are just little scraps of silk...about 3"x5". Sew short ends together and fold in half so raw edges are at the top...the fold is the hem.
Dannielle,
Is there any special reason to use pipe cleaners? I've been using florist's wire, and find myself wondering if pipe cleaners would be better. Or is it just that pipe cleaners are fairly easy to come by?
Thank you : )

the only reason I can think of is that maybe the fuzzy on the pipe cleaner adds a bit of heft/thickness to the limbs. Does the floss slip around on the wire? I'm wondering since the floss seems to stick to the fuzzy a bit.
If it works for you I'd stick with what works!

OK-this really needs to be a sticky-or FAQ something or other : )

I was just wondering, does it have to be floss? I just can't seem to find a wide variety of colors for floss. Is there an alternative?
Thanks

I don't think it *has* to be floss...the best ideas come from experimentation. Off the top of my head I can't think of anything else that would work as well though.
I never have a problem finding a wide array of colors in floss. Are you looking for dmc embroidery floss? Every JoAnn, Walmart, Michaels, etc I've ever been in carries it.

LOL
I was looking in the "floss you teeth" floss section in the grocery store.
Well now I feel silly. (((((
Thanks Dannielle, I will go hit up my local crafty store.

:D
Hey, that comes in what...purple, green, white. You could almost do something with it. LOL!
Dental floss is actually one of my big crafty secrets. I've yet to find stronger "thread". I use it for all my hand sewing that doesn't show. Just plain white, waxed. :)
