going to my first pilates class - What should I expect?

I'm going to a pilates class this morning. I've never been. What should I expect? I'm just wearing my regular exercise clothes. (I have a strength class right before pilates.) Is that OK? Do I need to take a yoga mat? Or just use the mats we use in strength and abs?

Bring your mat, and expect to feel like you are really stretching and twisting your back muscles. It's a good feeling, but different, since it's stretches and holds you won't be used too.

If it's real Joseph Pilates pilates, they may have mats and equipment. You want more of a padded mat for it. You don't have to be as coordinated for pilates as yoga.
Your legs will be up in the air, so plan accordingly with whatever pants/shorts you wear.
Take it easy, Sarah is right because it feels like you're barely doing anything, and then you can't even move the next day. ack!

To feel it the next day...

And yes - bring blocks!

I just dove back into Yoga classes 3 days/wk and it took me a couple days for my body to adjust.

Enjoy it

I did like it!

Just before the pilates class, I did a strength and abs class. It mostly worked my legs/glutes and abs. Then the pilates class worked the same. I wish I had done some arms work.

I feel it today, but I'm not sore or even uncomfy. Well, I am - but that's because I fell down my front steps and hurt my right wrist, shoulder, and butt cheek. But I really can't blame pilates on that!
