dog license? how much to get your dog spayed? any programs to help cover?
Casey, our 7 month old Old English Bulldog, is scheduled to see the vet next week. I was quite shocked when they told me the price, $250. I called another local vet and they pretty much gave me the same price.
Are there any programs that help cover this that I should check into?
We are talking about getting a lifetime license and having it tatooed on the inside of her leg when she goes in for surgery. Is there any reason i shouldnt do this? something that would be better?
thanks! its been a while since we've had a dog and been through all of this.

My mom just opened a spay and neuter clinic in WNY. They spay/neuter dogs for 55$. It is pretty much a non-profit program that helps people who can't afford to get their animals spayed. You could call local non-profit rescue organizations and ask if they could refer you to something like that in your area.

Don't have dogs but with cats I found the price still spendy and one reason I haven't been able to quite get it all together.
I got in touch last with with someone that was in Petsmart with the 'adoption crew' and I'm going to go through PETA's mobil unit - non profit ect type deal. Drop off in the morning, pick up in the afternoon. The local vets want anywhere from $135-185 for just fixing, not including anything ontop of that. This unit is $50 for fixing, and that includes pain meds sent home with them so they are comfy and 24hr on call if there maybe any problems. Then the shots are $10-15 each and if you want frontline its like $10 a month if bought monthly and I think she said $50 for 6months. And I believe she also offered microchipping..
So in a few weeks 2 littles will go in, since thats all we have decided to keep. Now to rehome the other kitties and mommy and pass on this wonderful information to those people!
Our local shelters have vet clinics. They do inexpensice spay/neuter but they only do it on certain days and last time I called, there was more than a month wait for an appt.

the spca usually has a program, call and ask. My problem was that none of the vets around here participated so I ended up paying about $500 for both dogs
