i have a theory that seems to be true from the people that i talk to that moms tend to click ad graphics that are cute, crisp and colorful and stay away from ugly and unprofessional looking ads.
i also think that we tend to click ads for products more than opportunities (such as work-at-home opportunities...unless, of course, you are actually looking for a wah opportunity i suppose), but this is something i really don't have a lot of input on.
can y'all please share with me if either of these things is correct with you and what other factors make you actually pay attention to an ad graphic and ignore others? i'm thinking specifically of things like the banner ads at the top of this page and such.
so, what makes you click and not click on ads? i'd like as much input on this as i can get! thanks a bunch!!

What always catches my attention is an ad with a catchy catch phrase or play on words because I think they are clever. It doesn't matter what the ad is for, if the writing appeals to me, it usually piques my interest enough to want to see what the product is.
so do you think the site that the ad is on has a lot to do with it as well? do you trust ads on sites that you trust and not so much on others?
Yes. On smaller sites advertisers are, or seem to be, "like-minded". They're selling the stuff that makes me go to that site in the first place; natural products, home school stuff, etc.
On bigger sites, like yahoo or google, I never click through a big business commercial ad.
eta: I see you're looking to see what "moms" click on. This mom will click on darn near anything that looks like a delightful little site with child-ware. Clothes, toys, etc. boutique-y, charming, whimsical...it all appeals to me.
I, for some reason, can buy for my children guilt free. Even impulse purchases...if it's for my kids...no problem. LOL.
The only reason I click on ads, here or anywhere, is if they have a product or service I'm actually interested in. Its appearance holds no bearing with me.
i have designed banner ads in the past, and may start doing them again. I like simple and clean. I spend much much more time than I should designing, and even do flash if the banner warrants it. I try and only use good pictures and very readable fonts with not too many words.
