if you have it saved to your computer...
go to "My Page" (User Control Panel)
select "Edit Options"
choose "Change (or Choose) Avatar"
at the bottom go to "You can upload an avatar from your computer:" and then browse where you saved it.
Then submit modifications.
I *think* only .gif files work. Or it may just be me that had a problem with .jpg files.

edited to add:
avatars here are small... 32x32 so you may need to resize or put it in your sig line.

but it *is* tiny. I think I used a jpg for mine - it was so long ago now.
