Ideas for Teaching about Olympics?

With the Olympics on in a week or so, I want to teach the kids a bit about the Olympics and see if I can catch their interest in the various sports. Any ideas?
BTW, their ages are 8 and 5 (both are on the spectrum).

How about something like this:
CurrClick - Grace Bound Books - The Olympics Unit Study

Also I would check out the olympic training center website. Maybe pick some Athletes to follow through out the games. Keep track of their scores and how well they do.

I haven't watched this, so I don't know what the target age is, but I got an email from the Teaching Company saying that they have a free lecture about the Olympics. We love their courses in general, so we'll probably watch this lecture. Here is a link:

I am going to start teaching about the olympics, here is what we are going to do:

Make a graph of each of the countires involved, and chart who won what medals.

hold our own olympics: research what games we want to include, make invites and invite friends. make the medals (reseach how they are made etc) and rings out of cardboard and construction paper. my 4th grader is going to pick a past olympian and write about them. my 1st grader is going to pick a past olympian to learn about. we also are going to learn about China and differnet events and stuff.. I'm going to toss ideas out and let my kids lead...

Thanks everyone! Even though we haven't started school yet, I thought this would be a great idea!

Our mom group for our subdivision had a Kid's Olympics yesterday. The kids had a lot of fun and when we watched the opening ceremony last night, it was really meaningful for them. They were just glued to the tv.

I took pictures at the Kid Olympics and they are on my blog.

I used some tools at EnchantedLearning.com that my kids really liked. Also got out an atlas and looked at some flags and youtubed some of the lesser known sports.
