ok, so a little run down of the day.
I had a list printed for each of the kids. We got up and got ready and I made breakfast. Austin started to be irritable, so I sent him for a shower.

Gave him long enough to get him not quite to confrontative.
9 am we started.
Nathan worked on his math for over 2 hours. It was stuff he KNEW how to do - but he is used to a computer program and he was writing it down. For my Aspie, this is a huge adjustment... but he went with it and completed his work - just took him forever. Then he took his time with his literature - reading a short story then answering discussion questions. Thing is, the questions were "how did the king feel about...". Um, a kid who has social issues... not a good fit. But, he plugged away - answering as best he could. He plugged away ALL day long. Finally around 8 pm I told him he could stop. He really wanted to get everything done, but he was tired. I have very mixed feelings about this... more on that later, though.
Lauren got a book from her pile, "Harold and the Purple Crayon" and went to the livingroom and read it to herself. She came back into our 'room' (garage) and did a math paper and then got out 2 more books and read them. Poor girl kept getting put off all day.
Austin did really well. His teacher emailed him during the day - letting him know that when she looks at his work she will be looking for certain things. (ha! I prompted that email... I kind of like not having to be the 'bad guy') He got through everything pretty seamlessly.
Adam felt very defeated when he realized that his math book is now a textbook and not a workbook style book... so he can't write the answers in it. I mean really, he cried. He kept saying he just couldn't do 3rd grade work and it was going to just be too much.

Poor boy. The real issue is that he absolutely adored his teacher for the second half of last school year when I had him go to school. He misses her so much. BUT... he completed 2 lessons in math (without a mistake, mind you), 2 spelling lists (missing none - he's a natural speller), his literature, a writing assignment, reading for 30 minutes, and his handwriting assignment. He was the first one done, and he was so proud of himself. And he enjoyed the things he was reading and learning about.
Of course, my phone NEVER rings. But this morning, it rang no less than 6 times. Maintenance showed up to remove our fridge (base fridge wasn't working). I decided that at 2 I would take the kids to get ice cream as a little treat... of course the dog got out and ran to places he has never been before... took about 45 minutes to get him back in the house. Then we got to the px for the ice cream and something else happened. Oh, and around 11:30 my next door neighbor called all frustrated because she had no clue how to even work with the K12 online school - she was soooo lost. So while the kids ate lunch I went over to her house to give her a quick how to. Back to the PX for ice cream... I hadn't eaten so I was starving, so I got something to eat. We went from there to the library. Couldn't find Tolkein books - they weren't showing up in the computer system, so I asked for help in finding them. The guy says, "Did you look in the fantasy section." I'm like, um, no, I looked in non-fiction. (ok, laugh, I know... I know... I was tired!). So the grumpy man showed us where to look. Mind you, I can find ANYTHING in the juvenile section... but I haven't really had to look for classic fiction novels! lol Well, not in very close to 20 years! ack So I leave the library feeling like a compelte idiot. Go to the post office. Somehow it is now 4:20... and the post office closes on base at 4! I was so mad... I get there, get up to the building - and there are NO windows open!!! Completely closed down. I was sure they were open until 4:30.
Oh, and did I mention that yesterday I slammed my foot into one of these darned baby gates? My sister has everything gated off - and I ran right through one and slammed my toe on it. I thought, ok, it hurts like hell, but it's ok. It was still throbbing last night. I had taped it to the next toe and it seemed better today so I took the tape off... my entire pointer toe on my right foot is black and blue with a very dark line down the side of it. AND... someone took my crocks off the front porch! So my crocks (flip flop style, not garden gnome style - lol), the only shoes that will not hurt my toe, are MIA.
So that was the day. Tomorrow should be better. Of course, I have to leave for a bit because Lauren has an appointment with speech pathology tomorrow.
it's now 9:40 and I am trying to get myself prepared for what the kids are doing tomorrow. I have made a list for Nathan... with his help. It helps him to see it all written down. The poor kid - he just kept working and kept working all day long. He wanted to finish his assignments, but the whole process is all so new and he's not used to working on a time line at all. He knew he was taking a long time for everything... but he was working, or thinking about how to word things, or answer the questions or finish the problems. Poor kid.
