Just need to someone to share in my excitement!

This has been our first year homeschooling (dd1 went to ps for K-2). Everything has been going wonderfully throughout this school year....with the exception of math. We purchased Saxon 3, and my dd just hated it (within the first few lessons) and from there, she just shut down to math. She developed a mental block against math. I cannot tell you how many times we have had tears during math lessons (both her and me!). Even when we stopped using Saxon and tried other methods/practice/etc., she still resisted. Well, two days ago (Tuesday), I broke down and ordered Math U See (which I originally wanted to order, but it's a long story as to why I ordered Saxon instead!). It arrived today (yes...can you believe it? TWO days! I was expecting to receive it in 2 WEEKS!). We watched the 1st part of the video and finished an entire lesson (introduction of the skill, two practice pages, 1 cumulative practice page and a lesson test!). My dd loved it! She enjoyed watching the video with me....loved using the manipulatives. Oh my goodness...I wish you could feel the sense of relief in my heart right now! I feel like we've jumped a huge hurdle! And my son is begging to start "his math" which is the Primer level of MUS.....I ordered it to use this coming fall when we start kindergarten, but he's so eager that we're just going to go ahead and start now!

Anyway....just needed to share my excitement with someone who could fully understand what a monumental moment this was for us!

I guess my purpose in posting was not to rave about Math U See (although I will!), but more to share how different curriculums/methods/etc. can make such a HUGE difference in how a child perceives a subject!

It's great to watch it all 'click' and it's so empowering especially when a child thought a certain skill was difficult or unattainable. Way to go!
