I just spent an hour...

looking at a human body book with Nathan and it was great! I love that we can take his cues and go with them for what we are learning.

He was extremely fascinated with the digestive system.

Today we went to homeschool story time at a library in Omaha - the first time we have gone. I only took my two oldest because dh had the day off. I'm confident we can do this weekly with all 4 kids, though, now.

Before the presentation (it was a physics and chemistry thing... very cool and very loud!), Austin and Nate were looking at books in the library. Austin actually read a book by himself (of course, it was one that had one sentence per page - lol) and Nate was fascinated with the DK book on the human body. So this evening I went to our library and got a couple of human body books. He took them to bed with him. (usually it's a math book he sleeps with! lol)

I just love this. I love homeschooling!

Heather, I sure wish we had "Homeschool Library time". I don't really know what our homeschool group is doing. I need to get involved this year, but last year they were so busy it was crazy.

I think that's what I love about hs'ing - the fact that you can kind of follow cues and really learn what the kids are interested in! Right now Devin's been extremely interested in the neighborhood creek. We found a full aquarium set up at a yard sale for $1 (really dirty but working) and he cleaned it out and has been bringing critters home in it. So far he's had a leech, crawdads, a small snapping turtle, and lots and lots of frogs and toads.

The leech was awesome. We found some websites and learned so much about leeches. Our leech was 6 inches long, and we kept him for a couple of weeks before returning him to the creek.

The crawdads - well, they were crawdads. Fun for a while, but they lost their appeal quickly and ended up back at the creek quickly to make room for other critters.

When we went to Springfield to do the Stream Team thing we picked up a poster of Missouri's frogs and toads for $5 - Devin and his friend are having great fun trying to find one of each kind of frog and toad. LOL They haven't quite found them all - but honestly he's having so much fun it doesn't matter.

His newest obsession are the thorn trees down by his creek. He's fashioning "weapons" out of the thorns. Not sure what I feel about the "weapon" aspect, but I do love his excitement when he brings home a new thorn.

We also looked at that website Dannielle posted about the box turtles, and next year we are looking forward to building a box turtle refuge.

Ah!!!!! I love hs'ing. We've been reworking our hs/playroom, and I'm gonna have to post some pictures of it. It is really starting to look awesome! I'll wait until we have our yardsale and dh uses that $$$ to build my shelves - I can't wait!!!!
