I know several of you keep track of what your child has read (and read alouds you do) do you only do this when your child(ren) starts reading 'chapter' books? We read SOOOO many different books through the course of a week or two I can't imagine writing down all these different picture books. I've just started doing read-alouds with different chapter books while she plays. Would you keep track of these?

I usually write down what books we get from the library each week. I try to write down which books we purchase as well. I keep a notebook with the learning things we do, and the running book list is in there.

My daughter reads a lot! At least now she's reading longer, harder books so she only goes through4-8 a week. When she was reading 1st-2nd grade level she was reading many books each day. We devised a little system to make keeping track a little easier...because if it's not easy I;m likely to slack off with keeping track.

We got a short 2 shelf bookcase for her bedroom. All of the books are kept on bookcases that are scattered throughout the main living areas of the house. One shelf was for books she has chosen because she is interested in reading them. The bottom shelf was where she put books when she was done reading them.

She does most of her reading in her room so it was convenient for her to pick a book from her shelf.

When she started complaining that there weren't any good books on her shelf I'd write down and put away (outside of her room) what was on the "read" shelf. Then we'd gather new books for her "unread" shelf.

I don't do that so much anymore because I remember enough of what she's read to note it. I miss about half but I figure kids who are in a traditional school setting don't get credit for all of their pleasure reading.

I note the chapter books and anything that was subject specific in our weekly log.

Our library prints out a list of books that are checked out. I paste the list on to a piece of paper that I keep in our notebook/dayplanner/weekly log book. I make notes on the paper as to who the book was for, if it was appopriate, well liked, if it was not read and when returned.

I gave up on noting most of the books that get read around here because it was too over wellming.

I only log books read independently, and I only started logging after they started reading real chapter books (not the easy reader ones like MTH).

I made a spreadsheet in Excel with a column for title, author, date read, number of pages, and the AR level for each book. Now I can sort what they've read by a lot of parameters, so it's handy. It's rough to keep up with sometimes though becuase between the two of them they read 20+ books a week. They choose their books from their own stacks of new books, and read books go on the back of the piano to be logged.
