Has anyone used Sonlight with several kids at once?

Next school year I'll have an almost 5yo (12/12/99) and a 6 and 7yo. I was thinking of using Sonlight's Core Level 2 as it says you can use it with 5-11yos.

I have been reading WTM I got from my library and am also thinking about using that as a resource since Sonlight is pricey (we already have many of the advanced reading books).

My older 2 can read very fluently. My 4 1/2 yo is interested in learning now.

My 1yo may start surgery for his birth defects so I admit I was looking for something with little preparation.

We used Alpha Omega Lifepacs this past year (Kindergarten and 2nd grade) and while they did learn it was a rather stale-ish experience (maybe I don't like worktexts although my kids didn't seem to mind them).

All comments appreciated!

Warmly,
Debra

Well I think (from what I have seen) that Sonlight works well with multiple ages.

I know there is a lot of discussion on the Sonlight forums, have you checked that out.

We are planning on doing the prek starting this fall with our 4 1/2 yo and our 2 1/2 yo. I imagine that my oldest (who will be 5 in October) will be ready for K by the first of the year so I will probably start him on that in January and then I will either move them both to k or continue using the pre k with ds2 depending on how he is doing with it.

Combining is great History, Science, Art, Music, etc. Just keep them wherever they 'are' in Math and Language Arts - and you are set.

We're using TWTM for our basis. Nate is K age, and Austin is 2nd grade age. They are both working at a 2nd grade level in math... we do history, science, art and music together. We read from Story of the World together. We do experiments together.

I would combine all 3 - then have them work whatever level they need for LA and Math.

I have 7 children, 4 of whom are school-aged until next year, when I'll add 2 more.

We did Sonlight with 4 children, worked great!

I actually have spent way more money since we switched to Well-Trained Mind 2 years ago! But that may not be the same for you, as we needed to buy the stuff from all 3 stages of WTM. I guess my point is, with the Sonlight catalogue you look at the totals and gasp *it's so expensive*, but add up all of what you buy for WTM and you might be surprised!!
