The Potty, revisited
Sooo... DS is 29 months.
My overriding philosophy on this issue has been that I wanted him to learn when he was ready, and I'm not a big fan of using rewards. Here's what's going on, in case you mamas have some helpful insights!
If he is naked or wearing only shorts or underwear, he will always tee-tee in the potty, or in the yard, LOL!
He used to poop in the little potty on occasion - on his own. He has not done this in many months. He prefers privacy and a deep squat for pooping. I showed him how to climb up on the big potty in this way on his own once, and ONCE, totally by himself, he went in there and pooped. But not since.
He prefers to poop in a diaper, and so he does so after a nap or first thing in the morning, or sometimes he'll ask for a diaper. He goes through bouts of constipation, and I wonder if this is related to him "holding it" until he has a diaper.
Most recently - within the past few days, he has not wanted to tee-tee in the potty - well, it's more like he doesn't want to stop what he's doing to go do it. And so he's holding it for long periods of time. This bothers me and it doesn't seem healthy.
Now again - I don't want to push him into learning all this, but I'm wondering how much of it is distraction that's getting in the way of his learning, and what I might could do differently to offer him more freedom to continue learning. We've been "stuck" for awhile now.... He LOVES to learn new things, especially things that allow him more independence. Maybe he's getting his needs for that met in so many other ways that he's left the potty progress behind?
What do y'all think?
