Anybody know of a baby who stopped nursing for 8-12 hours for no apparent reason?

Dd is four months and barely nursed all day yesterday, to the point her diapers were dry and I was getting worried (and engorged). She did cry unconsolably a few times and seemed extra fussy. She did the same thing three days ago, scaring me with the dry diapers and all for about 12 hours. That time she finally ate, then threw it all up (seriously all). I figured it was a stomach bug, but nursing her only a few minutes at a time (all night!) got her back to normal for nearly two days, so maybe it was just too much milk on an empty stomach. Yesterday she started nursing normally in the evening after about 8 hours of not. Teething? Illness? This girl is normally all smiles, but something is getting to her....

My first thought is maybe a food sensitivity issue. Have you been eating something new or different?

I would agree with food sensativity. Mikayla (my oldest) would go on hunger strikes for no apperant reason, eating very little for a whole day, then wanting to eat ALL NIGHT LONG. Have you had her to the chiro recently? Miranda (my youngest) had a lot of trouble eating at about 4 months because she was learning to roll really well and it had messed up her alignment, one trip to the chiro and she was eating well and rolling like a champ. Hope you figure it out soon.

Hmm. Food sensitivity. You have me wondering about diet now, but I can't remember anything out of the ordinary. We are just trying eliminating wheat and dairy for ds, so I could have been eating out of the ordinary somewhat. I'll have to stay alert to that. For now, though, no more recurrences.... Thanks for the idea, and I will hope it was just a 2x fluke.

Update: Hasn't happened again. Yes, I'm thinking maybe teething. I'm hoping not food! But we've been cutting out dairy, wheat and soy in hopes of getting rid of ds's abdominal pain. No progress on that front, but I could have cut out whatever was bothering this little one in the process.

So... I'm just hoping it doesn't happen again. I thought painful big breasts were only for the first week! Thanks again for the replies.
