Poop Question

Molly is a year old, and a bottle baby (though we're working on weaning at the moment). She's aways had a tendency toward constipation which we'd been keeping under control by feeding her 4 ounces a day of Gerber's apple-prune juice.

Only now that she's starting to wean and getting more and more of her nutrition from other sources she's completely rejecting the apple-prune juice. Without the juice, no poop and now she won't take the juice at all. I've tried an ounce or so of straight prune juice, and it works if she'll take it (which she only will once in a while).

Are there any other natural laxatives gentle enough for a toddler? Or any suggestions how to sneak prunes into my wilfull girl short of rolling them in sugar and force-feeding her? My pediatrician has offered to prescribe a laxative/stool softener but I'd really rather not go there if I don't have to.

flax seed or flax oil work beautifully and can be added to just about anything.
Lots of fiber, fruits, veggies, corn, grapes, peas, stuff that you usually see leftover in the dipe (ew)
blueberries too.
or prunes, I love them!

I agree with Dixiechick.......

Ellery used to be constipated ALL the time! Turned out it was allergies!
have you had Molly tested for allergies??? The day we stopped feeding Ellery the allergens was the day her stools werre finally normal after 6 months of diarrhea and constipation!

Another thing--Have you tried Pear juice? It worked wonders with Alex. We didn't have to give him much either. Eventually, as he ate more foods, we didn't have to help him along anymore. When he came to us (he was a little over 2) there were so few foods he would eat...we really had to work to make his diet balanced. Once that was done, his body processed things well.

Cute siggy!
