Exclamation ~Information needed, sick toddler, swollen neck, fever, lethargic. Any clue?

Hello everyone, this is on heck of a way for an introduction.. I have been lurking here for a while.
Now I am in need of any information that may help me before I take my DD to the DR.

Here is the situation...
DD is 18 months old.

Lastnight she was very fussy, not crying as she usually does. Fussy, Fussy!
Went to bed with her, still fussy. I noticed that she wasnt really moving her head much, moving from the shoulders not the neck.
Midnight she woke up and layed on my chest. I went to rub her head/neck and found a HUGE LUMP on her neck... right side, between ear and shoulder.

I checked every inch of her body for any sort of bug bites. We did a bunch of gardening yesterday. Nothing that is visable.
Checked for any other glands that might have been swollen, nothing. I took her temp, normal.

Being as though it was midnight, decided to wait til this morining to take her to the DR.

6:40am
(she never gets up before 7:30-8am)
she wakes up whining. She slept in the same posistion all night.. NOT LIKE HER. The swelling is still there, now she has a low fever. She is lathargic also. Not completely lymp, but just not mobile as usual.
She drank some water this am, ate a few pieces of cereal and fell asleep in the recliner.
I sat her down to get on here to search to find something.. I cannot find anything.

She did not have any tramas yesterday that made her cry.. no falling down, running into anything, ect.

If anyone has any sort of clue, a child or a story of similar symptoms.... PLEASE HELP!
I will be taking her in to see our family physican after 9. but any help before then would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks so much.

i don't know the symptoms but the lump made me think maybe mumps? I know Iowa has had an outbreak and I'm sure other places have had them as well. Hope she feels better soon!!

one more waiting for us keeps me from preventing...

Hi everyone again.

Viral infection... of course, isnt that the answer to everything when a DR does not know for sure what it is?!?!
....Tylenol/Motrin for pain, fever.. call or go to ER if it gets worse.

Blah Blah!

She does seem to 'feel' better this evening. Moving much more and no fever. The swelling has not gotten worse, so that is a good sign.

Thanks to all

Lymph nodes can get swollen for lots of reasons, fighting off any kind of infection. However, 5 cases of mumps have been confirmed in FL. They usually have one case every year or two. I might ask for a blood draw, just to be certain. There isn't anything they can do to make her get better faster, but then you will have documentation that she has life long immunity.
