My 1y/o doesn't sleep through the night!

It seems I've gone through this before, but I forgot what I did - or did it just eventually go away... I don't know, but I think by now he should be sleeping through the night, considering some people's babies do this at like 2 months, right?

Any ideas, thoughts, comments are appreciated! We co-sleep and I nurse him. I think I remember giving him some water in a bottle instead of buju as we call it, but my husband works 6 days a week overtime and I dont really want to disturb his sleep if I can help it? HELP, please!

Bayus still nurses twice in the night, more if somethings going on like illness. This is less than both his older brother and sister used to do at the same age so I'm not complaining but I am subscribing to this thread for more ideas

it's totally normal, first of all, for 1 year olds not to sleep through the night..just so you know..
I found the advice on www.drjaygordon.com to be very useful..I think if you look in the attachment parenting section it will lead you to a night weaning article..it's something to try but it does take a few weeks. It worked for us with the older child..I haven't really done much for sophie but she only wakes up once and it doesn't bother me

i'd say it's normal...

jackson just started sleeping through the night this past week...and it's not every night. he does it about 1/2 the time...the other half he wakes once. unless, like sarah said, there is something else going on illness or developmentally.

i think he's sleeping now like he is because he's walking now and that is sort of a developmental thing he's pretty much got down now. Savannah wasn't sleeping like this at his age ...and if you want to relate the two...she wasn't walking yet either at this point.

i night weaned her at 15 months (b/c i was several months pregnant and needed to desperately sleep) the dr. jay gordon way.

I think sleeping through the night is myth lol My 3 1/2 yro just started really sleeping through the night. For they past year she has gotton up at least 4 nights out of the week. The past month it seems to be down to once a week. The older two were a little younger but def not before 2. The baby will sleep about for about 4-5 hour stretchs, wake up latch on we we fall back asleep. I don't change her unless I can feel her starting to wick through and that is only when I don't have enough diaper on, bad cover or she had a nursing marathon right before bed. Victoria is a really light sleeper I think that is why she woke so often through the night. Anytime I moved or dh she would wake. Looking back I wish I would have put her down in her own bed and then when she woke brought her into our bed. Is that something you can try? No real advice except they do outgrow it, my 12yro and 9yro sleep all night long!!

my 3 1/2 year old still gets up & climbs in bed with us.

my 15 mo. old doesnt night nurse, but she wakes several times a night. i can just "ssshhhhh" her some other times i rub on her for a few seconds. sometimes i put her back in bed with me & she will fall back to sleep better. (we just recently put her in a crib in her room & i sleep in another bed in the same room).

i made myself miserable *expecting* my older child to sleep better than he did/does. i read elizabeth pantley's no cry sleep solution & that helped a lot. helping him transition between sleep cycles helped him as a baby, but as a 3 1/2 year old, i dont know what to do other than let him crawl in bed with us. he does go back to sleep. it would be a problem if he wanted to be awake & play.

Another mama whose 3-1/2 year old still rarely sleeps through the night! He woke up every two hours to nurse till he was two, and he only stopped after we night weaned him. He consistently wakes up around 2 or 3 a.m. to crawl into bed with us and go back to sleep.

I know of MANY other women whose babies didn't sleep more than a few hours at a time at night until after they night weaned. I'm starting to wonder where the idea that babies are "supposed" to sleep through the night ever came from, since it seems that at best maybe half sleep through the night when they're still infants.

My older two slept through the night before 1. Bren was 4 months, Ian was 9 months.

Connor is almost 11 months and shows no signs of sleeping through anytime soon. But I have made significant progress using ideas from the no cry sleep solution. Up until about a month ago he wouldn't sleep longer than an hour or two at a stretch unless he was latched on. That was what drove me crazy more than anything.

Now he goes down in a crib at around 7:30 and sleeps till sometime usually around midnight. When he wakes up, I go in his room and sleep with him on a mattress on the floor. He is usually back asleep and "unlatched" within five minutes and will sleep for another three hours before waking me up, usually by crawling on top of me, LOL.

Okay, it would take a miracle for my 10.5 month old to sleep through the night by the time he's 1. He still wakes about 5x/night to nurse. I'm pretty much insane.
