How do you teach a boy to care for his...

uncirumsized penis? Ds is almost 3 and for some reason I thought this would be my husband's job. But I asked the other day and he said that he hasn't said anything to him about it and he wouldn't know anyway because he is circed.

So, what is the proper care and what do I say to my son?

The reason I ask, is because he had a UTI that developed into a bladder infection in Jan/Feb. I know that it is uncommon for boys to get UTI's and I'm wondering if improper care was at fault. I have broght him to the Ped one other time in the past for complaints about his pee-pee hurting and he mentioned it again last night.

awww...i have no idea. i have an uncirc'ed son myself, but haven't gotten to that point. my ped said he would keep an eye on it, and once the foreskin retracted we could discuss and he would demonstrate proper care. i'm sure i'll appreciate that when the time comes.

We tell both of our older boys (6 and 4) to retract as much as possible and swish it in the tub while taking a bath. Sometimes my older ds will take a wet rag and wipe his while taking a bath but they never use soap.

There may be some info on www.nocirc.org or you could ask Denise she would be able to help or point you in the right direction.

Both of my boys are almost fully retractable (on their own) and I just remind them to pull their "hot dogs" out (my son Lucas' name for the actual glans; he discovered it when it was about 3 or so. "Look mommy! There's a hot dog in my penis!!) and he told his little brother about it. *sigh*) and splash some water in there. So far no problems.

Thanks for the help... I just checked nocirc.org and for a helpful pamphlet. So, it's not supposed to be fully retractable until 18? When ds was born, I heard that it was by 3. Hummm I wonder where I heard that from?

I've read that it should retract pretty much on its own anywhere from ~3-10 years old. Only at and after that should you ever have to clean it. No soap, just water. I like the swish around in the tub idea.

Thanks for validating what I've read, ladies! There's so much conflicting info out there!
