Seriously? Even IF he wasn't all of the things Rebecca said he was (and I believe he is), we as a country, a country that has a seriously checkered past when it comes to racial equality, has just elected a black man named Barack Obama to be our next president, only a few generations after the end of the civil rights movement, only a few generations from a time when a black man couldn't use the same bathroom that a white man could. My parents went to segregated schools, *I* grew up in a time where a interracial relationship could get a brick thrown through a window (ask me how I know). And now, we have spoken as a people and elected a black man president. IF FOR NOTHING ELSE, THAT brings tears to *my* eyes.

I have great hope for our nation now. I was a fan of Obama from the beginning. I think he has amazing potential to take this country in a direction that I want to see it go in. That said, I know there are others who disagree with the direction I see and hope for and I can certainly understand that. But even if he had been a Republican, even then I might have shed a few tears of happiness for the milestones we have crossed tonight.
