What interesting ideas- thanks for sharing! I'm rejoicing with you over your birdhouse gourd. I have those planted as well and its the one thing in my garden that is new this year and I'm really really excited about. We have had a really really late summer here and so they got in the ground late and so far all I have are some short little sprouts poking out of the soil- we'll see if anything becomes of them.
I wonder if I can modify your slow watering system for when I go on vacation for 5 days.....
