venting Going through it too!!

My son is 22 months and has been hitting and biting a lot. I went to our New Parent Support Program(NPSP) and got a book call "When 'No' Gets You Nowhere" by Mark L. Brenner. It was a GREAT book to read and had lots of info. on dealing with these problems.
The main thing the book talks about is talking to your child and remaining calm. Mainly not to yell or scream, but remain calm and explain to your child why hitting or biting hurts. Also why they can't touch or have something.
This is very time consuming to begin with, and it seems like I am explaining EVERYTHING to him, but it's working. Now, after only 2 weeks of using this info, he is listening.
The book explains how to trust your child and how to ask him to make the right choice when he is angry and trusting him to make that choice. I really suggest this book. It was very helpful to me and lots of great ideas. They other great thing about this book is it explains how handling and dealing with your toddler in an approprate, respectful manner helps them with their own self esteem and our relationship with them. All of this will only improve our relationship in the future.
Sorry such a long post, I just loved this book. I'm sure you could find it at your local library if you don't have an NPSP near you.
Good luck
Lana
