Hey Allison - just wanted to let you know - I'm on Wildblue's cheapest package, just downloaded Skype and tried it. So far I just tried leaving a voicemail for someone. But it worked! Very clear, not much delay if any. So that might be something to try for emergencies. I just used my laptop mic but if you don't have one built in you can get a headset or even a Skype phone!
I'm very excited. I was told it would not work at all but well - it definitely does! Certainly well enough for emergencies or even just phone calls to/from doctor's offices etc.
My brother just sent me a list of skype alternatives that may use even less bandwidth...
