My kids are 6 and 7 and we haven't watched the whole of the movie yet (got a bad disk from the library- but we did watch the first 10mins). I had read the warnings and reviews and so we had a long talk about what was about to happen before I started the movie, then we stopped the movie after the scene and talked some more. It is a bit of history that they were already familiar with but without the dramatic music or images (though limited). The hardest thing for them was just the fact that they start the movie there and then go back a few years to start the movie, so thats the majority of what they wanted to talk about.
Its definitely something to be aware of and warned because it is not subject matter to be taken lightly/casually with anyone but especially children. BUT I am fine with it for my kids (with the remote control in hand).
