Red face No Sh1t Sherlock! (aka. the news I awoke to this morning)

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/5366028.stm

I turned on the radio this morning just in time to hear a report on food chemicals and their effects, particulary when combined with each other. All the things that we are so 'anti' in our food, cookware, home products, etc. ...guess what - turns out they might actually bad for you! ummm....duh?

okay, yes, I am feeling a bit snarky and iritated by this. I am thankful that they are actually taking these issues seriously enough to take a look at it and issue warrants for further research, and hopefully making it into the media will raise more awareness outside of the health-aware circles that I run in where this is pretty much common knowledge.

But still..... I was waking up in massive pain after a night of very little sleep thanks to this lovely auto-immune disorder that is such a mystery to the medical establishment (fibromyalgia), on my way to physiotherapy for said disorder where I broke down crying because 5 repetitions of standing up without the aid of my arms had me shaking and in pain (using my leg muscles only)....so yeah. I got a big chip on my shoulder for matters like this. I know in all my being that exposure to toxins, likely beginning before I was born and made massively worse by the loads of chemicals that were celebrated as marvelous inventions have at the very least contributed to my illness. (I vividly remember my mom replacing all our cookware with this fabulous new teflon stuff, serving us up a piping hot meal straight from it whilst we lounged around in our funky flame-retardant sleepwear. And gleefully spraying air freshener at the slightest odor... ) and I can't help be bitter.

I just pray that my children are not going to have even worse, more mysterious and near impossible to treat conditions crop up on them. Call me a whacko alarmist all you want, but these are chances I am just not willing to take with my children but I heartbreakingly know that my efforts at home are likely not enough to protect them from the world at large.
