I never used the nystatin, only the genetian violet, it killed the yeast in 1 application on the 2 occations my son got thrush.
no need to have a prescription but it is usually kept behind the counter.
The way we used it was to use a q-tip and liberally paint my nipples then nurse my son. This got the fluid into his mouth without battling the baby for an open mouth and treated me. 2 birds 1 q-tip
