What to do with the private forums
I would like to know your opinions on what should happen to the private forums. No, making them public is not an option.

Would everyone be satisfied if you had the ability to edit in those forums indefinitely?

Delete them entirely, or allow anyone to delete or edit any and everything they posted.
You are coming up against a group who has been together for over 10 years and have always been able to do this without a problem. You coming to say it's better is an insult. You may have run some boards in your teens but a woman's long term board is a WHOLE nother kettle of fish.~Meg~ sahm to my trio of little women (6, 8, 19) happy wife to Mr Big

There is a nearly unanimous vote to completely delete Over the Rainbow. Every single member who has voiced an opinion wants it gone, but a small handful have not been active online to voice an opinion.
By the way, can you give a timeline on when you'll start deleting members for those who requested it?The angels have the phone box

Off topic and insulting responses will be ignored. Just FYI.

delete them all entirely. If you want to keep them active that's fine and people can still post in them (probably with a little more care now that we are no longer owned by a member) but a nice purging would do all the good in the world to prove to us that you actually care about what we want. If they are to remain private no matter what then purging them shouldn't matter since they wouldn't be bringing in any traffic anyway, correct?

I don't want my posts deleted. The ones started by me at least. Or let me copy them somehow into my private blog.
As I said in the other post - this site was like a diary to me, with my ups and downs, mamas providing the advice, cheering me on, all the arguments and disagreements.
I like to re-read the warm words of encouragement and wisdom, suggestions given, I like to see how my life changed for better or for worse, I don't want to just bam - delete. This site has been a part of my life for heaven's sake.Irina,

How about he gets the search fixed to the point that we can actually find all our old posts, those who want can copy them and then we have them cleared out?
So maybe an announcement once search is fixed that within a week or two the private areas will be purged. Would that work for everyone?

I want to edit everywhere indefinitely. It has never been a problem in the past and do not see it being a problem in the future. This is not meant to be insulting but Brad we are telling you that part of our community ain't broke why are you trying to fix it? The stuff that needs fixing is not our ability to edit our own posts and it never has been.

I don't want all of my posts deleted. I would rather see an edit in there. I really think it would suck to have any posts that I may not have a chance to get out of there... just deleted. I don't have time to sit here and search and save right now but def don't think everyone should have to have all their posts deleted even if they don't want that done.

I'm not saying that you all would abuse it. However, the membership of this site has been fairly stagnant for a long time. In fact new members haven't been allowed at all for a long time. Soon this will change and there will be new members. I'm hoping that many of you will be there to guide and help them as many of them might be in the same position that you were in 10 years ago. But some of these new members might try to cause problems, and one of the ways that they can do it is by going back and editing their posts to change the meanings of conversations.
Changing it to one hour is just standard practice when we take over a forum. It is not, however, set in stone. Although I now worry that some of you are so angry that you might in fact go back and just delete every post that you ever made. If enough did this then the conversations would lose their meaning and therefore their value to anyone trying to read them. I'm just being honest about how this seems to me. Please try to see it from my side and understand that I want to come to some solution that makes everyone happy, including me.

with a time stamp showing when the edit was made I'm fairly certain no one would think that the edited post was legit. The words I spoke in the private forums were never meant for new members. there is a very strict requirement to get in those forums so I felt safe saying what I wanted with some very old friends. I would rather have my account deleted altogether as I dont plan on continuing here but I would like to know my private posts were gone. especially my semi nude birth photos that I can now not delete
