Tell me about Flea Collars
My ILs for some stupid reason have a flea collar on their new puppy. We made them take it off while they were here b/c my kids LOVE their dog, and there's just NO WAY...
Anywho, can anyone give me links or information as to why they SHOULDN'T have that one their puppy. I'll pass it on to them. I just think it's the wrong choice, since the collar won't keep the fleas off the dog.

I just know esp on larger dogs the fleas just stay away from the head. I never used them because of the kids and my mom didn't use them for the same reason. The past couple years I have used the front line or something similar. We get fleas EVERY year, ok last year we didn't get them but this year I forgot to put the stuff on and sure enough they found us. My dd and dh get huge welts from flea bites, that was the first sign we had them this time. They only had two or three live ones I could find so I know we had just got them but the dogs sleep in our bed and I guess my dd and dh are just tasty to them fleas lol The year I started using the frontline we had a major flea battle, the people upstairs wouldn't clean properly and just kept on passing them back to us. My Pomeranian (who's only 5lbs) was almost admitted because she had lost so much blood. Some people don't like it but to me the alternative is worse, having to bomb and constantly wash in the flea shampoo. I don't want my kids exposed to all those chemicals. Sorry I didn’t really answer your question and gave a mini rant of my own but this is third day in row I have vacuumed every spot in my house; I’m hoping we caught them early enough we don’t have to bomb. I would just buy them a pack of the frontline and tell them to use it instead. The zodiac brand is much cheaper and my vet said it works the same so that’s what we just bought. My mil used the flea collars and that’s what I did last year, told her they had a sale, bogo, and it would expire before we could use it lol

Your vets office probably has pamphlets. It might be good to give them something physically to read. The best ptotection from fleas we have found has been a premium diet. Wellness is what we use now. We recently brought home a dog full of fleas so we've been battling it again and we are combining flea baths with frontline. Flea combing, washing all bedding and vaccuuming frequently helps too but once they are gone a good diet helps them stay gone. Good luck.
We are lucky enough to live in a climate where they don't survive the winter. Back in CA though it would have been a problem if we had neighbors with fleas, kwim? With the homes so close together and the mild weather all year. Might consider treating the yard.
